Angry customers vow to BOYCOTT Pret after chain releases Christmas sandwich in July

‘It’s not even summer yet!’: Pret A Manager divides opinion by releasing its Christmas Sandwich in JULY and decorating its stores with tinsel – with some threatening to boycott the chain

  • Pret has been slammed as ‘disrespectful’ for releasing their Christmas sandwich
  • Chain released their turkey and port & orange cranberry sauce sarnie yesterday
  • One customer said they won’t go into stores until Christmas decorations are taken down, while another said they’re going to cancel their subscription

Pret A Manger has been slammed as ‘disrespectful’ after releasing their Christmas sandwich five months early.

The high street coffee chain released their turkey and port & orange cranberry sauce sarnie yesterday, after claiming to be ‘inundated’ with messages from fans who missed out on the treat in December. They also decorated their stores with tinsel and baubles for an extra festive touch.

But now some customers have vowed to boycott the store for celebrating festivities too early, with one angry regular telling MailOnline: ‘I will not be going to any Pret until they are removed and they actually respect a period in the year which is such a special time to look forward to.’

Dozens of fans have taken to Twtitter saying they’re going to cancel their coffee subscriptions and described the early Christmas treat as ‘fresh hell’.

‘If they’re planning on keeping those there, my @Pret subscription is getting cancelled. I don’t like Christmas in December much but sodding July?’ said one.

‘Dear @Pret, there are still 172 days until Christmas, and the schools here in England haven’t even broken up for summer. Don’t you think this is a bit premature? #ChristmasCreep’ wrote another.

‘What fresh hell is this?!’ added a third.

‘Very fitting that the most logical thing to happen in 2021 is @Pret releasing a Christmas sandwich in July,’ added another.

Reverend Jame Bisset added: ‘I don’t allow Christmas events in the church to take place before Remembrance Sunday. Surely there’s other festivals to celebrate with a sandwich between now and Christmas? It’s a bit unimaginative of Pret if their sole marketing focus for 6 months is Christmas.’

‘And having seen Christmas branded mincemeat pies with a best before date of November, my opinion is that retailers shouldn’t sell Christmas themed food products if the best before date is before 25 December.’

The £3.99 sandwich, available for a month across the UK, is served up with thick slices of British turkey in a port & orange cranberry sauce, and filled with a herby pork stuffing, baby spinach leaves and is finished with a dab of free-range mayo.

However some were more excited about the launch, with one writing: ‘the re-release of the PRET Christmas sandwich is up there with the best announcements for July’.

‘ @Pret you legends bringing back the Christmas sandwich in July! You’ve made my day’ said another.

Topped with crispy onions – it’s usually a festive crowd pleaser.

To add to the festive spirit, 50p from every sandwich sold will be donated to The Pret Foundation, which works to alleviate poverty, hunger and homelessness for the past 25 years.

Clare Clough, UK Managing Director of Pret A Manger told FEMAIL: ‘Every year customers ask us for the Christmas sandwich to return earlier and earlier, and after many customers missed out on having one last year we’ve decided to stand by our mission of spreading joy through our food and coffee, and bring our iconic Christmas sandwich back early for a limited time this summer.

‘While we can’t change the weather or the football scores this summer, we can help people celebrate and recreate some festive joy by reuniting them with their favourite Christmas sandwich.’

For vegans and veggies, Pret will share the Vegan Nut Roast recipe on their social channels to ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy a taste of Pret Christmas cheer this summer.
