Love Island host Sophie Monk reveals her unexpected medical diagnosis

Love Island host Sophie Monk reveals her unexpected medical diagnosis – and says it explains why she ‘failed so badly’ at school

She’s a singer, actress and model who has been a household name in Australia for more than two decades.

But Sophie Monk has admitted she ‘never thought’ she could be successful, after failing ‘badly’ at school.

‘I now know that I have Attention Deficit Disorder [ADD],’ the 41-year-old admitted to Who magazine this week.

After having her confidence shattered by the condition, Sophie turned to performing.

‘I relied on that and my sense of humour to get through,’ said the London-born star.

Sophie then spoke about her long career as an entertainer, which began on the reality TV series Popstars in 2000, has included roles in Hollywood blockbusters, and now sees her hosting TV franchises like the forthcoming Beauty and the Geek.

‘Every day I feel blessed and lucky that I found something I can do,’ she said.

Sophie announced her engagement to partner Joshua Gross in January.

The former Bardot star revealed earlier this week the pair ‘do want children’ in the future, but admitted the topic was ‘hard to talk about’.

The Love Island Australia presenter told Woman’s Day: ‘We’re not not trying.

‘It’s hard to talk about. Everyone’s got an opinion on it so I kind of keep it a little bit low-key. But of course, we do want children!’

She froze her eggs two years ago, a move which she says takes the pressure off ‘a bit’.

‘I’ve got them as back-up!’ she added.

Sophie told The Kyle and Jackie O Show in March the pair would consider adopting a child if they struggled to fall pregnant.

She said: ‘If you couldn’t then we would do a different plan but I have frozen heaps of eggs.’

Sophie and Josh confirmed their engagement on January 15.

The couple first met on a flight from Europe to Australia in August 2018, and shared a kiss after enjoying ‘three champagnes’ in business class.

They grew closer when Joshua helped Sophie recover after endometriosis surgery in November. About this time, she also began the process of freezing her eggs.

Sophie admitted in July 2019 she was hoping Joshua would propose, sharing a telling message on Instagram on their two-year anniversary.

‘Happy anniversary @joshuargross, I can’t believe you’ve put up with me for two years,’ she wrote.

‘I love you so much and you’re my best friend in the world… I can’t wait to marry you (hint hint).’
