Famous faces are shown how they looked in 1966 when England last made a football final

They are some of the most well-known people in the world – towering representatives of royalty, entertainment and politics.

The Queen, Dame Joan Collins, Paul McCartney, Helen Mirren, Mick Jagger and Boris Johnson are just some of those who were alive in 1966.

Whilst Her Majesty had already been on the throne for 14 years in the year England won the World Cup for the first and, so far, only time, our current Prime Minister was only just turning two.

McCartney and his friends John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were topping the musical charts in the Beatles, whilst Jagger was doing the same with the Rolling Stones.

Screen star Collins had already appeared in 25 films, whilst Mirren was just starting out with her starring performances in the National Youth Theatre.

Prince Charles, who would turn 18 in November 1966, spent two terms at a grammar school in Victoria, Australia, that year.

As for MailOnline columnist Piers Morgan, he would turn one in March – three months before Bobby Charlton and his footballing colleagues triumphed over East Germany at the old Wembley Stadium.

Below, MailOnline has shown how some of our best-known stars looked both then – and now.
