H.E.R. graces cover of July digital issue of Glamour UK and discusses what it means to be sexy

H.E.R. graced the cover of Glamour UK‘s July digital issue released Thursday and discussed what it means to be sexy.

‘Sometimes as women, we have pressures of what a woman should look like and what it means to be sexy. And that sometimes in order to be sexy, you have to have your clothes off. To me, that’s not the case. I think you can be sexy either way,’ the 24-year-old singer told the magazine.

She added: ‘Your definition of what it means to be a woman or how it means to dress is up to you. And nobody else can take that away from you or define it or put it in a box’.

H.E.R., real name Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, wore a black mesh top over a black bra along with round black sunglasses for her cover image.

The Vallejo, California native admitted to Glamour UK that she was surprised earlier this year when she won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.

‘As soon as they called the nominations I was like, ”Oh wow, I’m sitting next to Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Beyonce and Dua Lipa…” It was just a lot of dope artists that are killing it and I didn’t think it was going to be me. When Trevor Noah was like, ”I Can’t Breathe,” I was freaking out… So that was really special and unexpected,’ she said.

H.E.R. also revealed who she considers her personal icons.

‘Honestly, Rihanna has been one of them lately. I love RiRi. And the makeup looks that she does… she just gets it. We have a similar skin tone, so when a lip looks good on her I’m like, ”Oh, I think I could rock that”,’ she said.

‘Sometimes I want to be a rockstar, sometimes I want to look like Lenny Kravitz! And another person I’m really influenced by is Prince. My Oscar look was his Oscar look when he won; I wanted to pay homage to him,’ she added.

The singer’s first compilation album titled H.E.R. was released in 2017 and received five Grammy Awards nominations, winning for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Album.
