‘It was fun for about an hour’: Mark Wahlberg regrets going on 11,000 calorie-a-day diet for his movie Stu

Mark Wahlberg regrets committing to an 11,000 calorie a day diet to quickly pack on the pounds for his new movie Stu.

Though he was initially looking forward to chowing down, the movie star, 50, told Jimmy Fallon the ‘fun’ quickly faded during a stop by The Tonight Show on Thursday night.

‘Unfortunately, I had to consume, for two weeks, 7,000 calories, and then for another two weeks, 11,000 calories,’ Mark explained. ‘And it was fun for about an hour.’

Up and down: Mark Wahlberg said he regrets committing to a 10k calorie a day diet for his movie Stu, admitting it’s hard to be constantly eating

It turns out gaining all that weight in just three weeks to play a real-life boxer turned priest Stuart Long was much more effort than he originally thought.

‘It’s such a hard, physical thing to do. Losing weight, you just kind of tough it out—you just don’t eat, and exercise.’

‘And this, even when you’re full, I would wake up after a meal and have another meal. I was eating every three hours. It was not fun,’ he told Jimmy.

Fallon added how much harder shedding extra weight becomes after a certain age, which Mark agreed with.

Tough: Mark also admitted it's been harder to lose weight quickly since getting older

‘Yeah, absolutely,’ the Oscar nominee said.

‘Once the metabolism starts to slow down, it gets really difficult.

‘I was trying to get this movie made for six years, we only had 30 days to shoot it, and so I wanted to really make it happen.’

‘And I was also crazy to have financed a lot of it myself. So I knew I was on a ticking clock on my own dime, and you get things done pretty quickly when that’s the case.’

Mark was much more enthusiastic abut indulging at the start of the process.

Talking abut his extreme diet back in April, the Ted actor said: ‘They want me to do it as healthy as possible.’

‘I’m like, “Dude, I’ve been on such a regimen for so long, I just want to eat everything in sight.”

‘I want to go to bakeries, I want to go to Denny’s, I want to get pancakes. I want to get everything that I could possibly get my hands on.’
