Though the thriller, which follows one woman’s unsettling experiences with IVF, was never planned to happen alongside her pregnancy, Ilana called the coincidence ‘eerie and cosmically funny.’

‘This was not supposed to happen this way, but it’s just so eerie and cosmically funny that it has,’ star/screenwriter Glazer said about being pregnant for the movie’s June 25th release on Hulu.

‘I’m lucky; I’m in control, unlike our protagonist. I don’t feel like I’m having the rug pulled out from under me in any way.’

And Ilana said she was lucky to have an amazing support system to rely on, not ‘afraid to ask a billion questions’ to her friends and family with kids.

‘There are certain trends in society of how pregnancy should look — the “shoulda coulda wouldas” that are put on women all the time but are so amplified in pregnancy.

‘I’m specifically seeking out the most spiritually healthy and welcoming experience,’ she went on.

Ilana explained how she sees False Positive – which also stars Justin Theroux and Pierce Brosnan – as a way to explore the fear and anxiety women deal with during pregnancy and birth, saying the piece is partly ‘about how the patriarchy is expressed through medicine.’

The politically-active star told EW: ‘The process of birth is so traumatic and painful, and yet it’s the most miraculous, surreal, real thing.

‘It’s like this perfect canvas for the paradox that is our country.’
