Sophie Monk says hosting a ‘s**t’ radio show on 2Day FM ‘messed with her’

Sophie Monk says hosting a ‘s**t’ radio show on 2Day FM ‘really messed with her because the ratings were so bad’

Sophie Monk has reflected on her short-lived career as a breakfast radio host.

The 41-year-old co-hosted the 2Day FM breakfast program in 2013, but it was axed after less than one year due to poor ratings.

‘Breakfast radio is tough. It really messed with me because we had no ratings either,’ Sophie admitted on Mitch Churi and Mitchell Coombs’ Is It Just Me? podcast.

She went on to say RPH, a radio network that provides ‘a reading service of popular publications throughout Australia’, received higher ratings than her show.

‘Getting up early to do a s**t radio show burns you out,’ Sophie added.

Sophie joined 2Day FM’s breakfast team in December 2013 alongside Jules Lund, Merrick Watts and Mel B, shortly after Kyle and Jackie O’s defection to KIIS FM.

In October 2014, Southern Cross Austereo dropped the show due to low ratings.

At the time, Sophie reportedly found the early starts challenging and said she was returning to her passion – acting.

‘It looks like it’s back to movies,’ she said on air. ‘This year’s already chockablock; you’ll see my face around.’

Since then, Sophie has hosted several reality TV shows, including Love Island Australia and Beauty and the Geek.

Last week, she revealed that only two of the geeks on this year’s season of BATG had ever been kissed before appearing on the show.

‘I think only two of them out of the 10 have ever had a first kiss,’ she said on Nova FM’s Fitzy & Wippa.
