America’s Got Talent: Pizza Man makes the cut as auditions end on NBC show ahead of Olympics hiatus

Pizza Man was among the eclectic group of contestants who advanced on Tuesday during the final auditions episode of season 16 of America’s Got Talent on NBC.

Nick Diesslin, 29, a full time web developer who called himself ‘Pizza Man’, performed a pizza dough juggling act for the judges.

He asked judge Howie Mandel, 65, to join him on stage as he tossed and spun pizza dough in the air.

Sofia Vergara, 49, afterward told Pizza Man that his act was ‘fun.’ 

Simon Cowell, 61, was typically blunt.

‘I thought you were going to be an idiot when you were talking, but I absolutely loved this audition, one of my favorites today,’ Simon said.

The judges then voted for him to advance with four yes votes.

The show opened with Bini The Bunny, a Guinness World Record-holding rabbit, who attempted to charm the judges with his basketball dunking skills. 

Bini’s owner Shari Asor Lighter told the judges he had worked for five years with his rabbit to do this act. Bini though appeared to suffer from some stage fright and wasn’t able to perform all of his tricks. 

In the end, he picked up a small basketball like ball and then dropped it in the basket.

‘This is why people prefer dogs to rabbits as pets because dogs do things and in my experience rabbits don’t do much, ‘Simon told him when he decided not to vote Bini on. 

All the other judges, however, disagreed and voted Bini through.

Several singers were voted through but the judges were blown away by Gabriella Laberge a French-Canadian violinist and singer from Montreal who performed the James Blunt’ song Goodbye My Lover.

She got four yeses.

Medhat Mamdouh, from Egypt, told the judges he was going to play the recorder for them and they were not expecting much. Then Medhat turned his innocuous recorder into a beatbox and the judges were stunned. 

Simon told him was dreading his act because he had to play a recorder at school and hated it. Howie said he was impressed that he took an instrument that was boring and made it trendy. All the judges voted him on.

Sergio Paolo, a 24-year-old juggler from Chile, also mesmerized the judges with his rapid juggling and aerobatic act. 

Heidi Klum, 48, said it was so fast that it didn’t look real. She yelled ‘he’s cute’ as he walked off the stage after getting four yeses.

Backstage a man by the name of Pasha from Moscow said his dance partner had not shown up. He came on stage solo and said his wife missed her flight and couldn’t make it.

He then rolled out a mannequin in her place and appeared to start dancing with it as a couple. The mannequin danced on a table and bended in unnatural ways that had both the audience and judges baffled and captivated.

‘I loved it, it was so surprising,’ said Sofia when it turned out that both the dancers were mannequins and Pasha was orchestrating it all from underneath. 

‘We were all thinking it was going to be terrible, but it was a great surprise,’ Simon said.

He said later that the judges love to be surprised and that is why they gave him four yeses.

The judges also voted on three dancing bears and a young contortionist.

A singing male trio called Lewberger from Los Angeles performed a serenade to Terry Crews asking him to take off his shirt. Terry eventually did and joined the group on stage shirtless and flexed his muscles to the beat.

Dylan Zangwill, 14, from Pennsylvania, wowed the judges with his grown up voice when he covered Queen’s ‘Somebody To Love’ while playing the keyboard. Heidi thought he was ‘amazing.’ Simon told him it was a great audition.

‘I think there is a lot more to come from you,’ Simon said. 

All the judges voted him on.

Three brothers from Colombia who called their balancing act Rialcris said they were very excited to go on stage and perform in front of Sofia, who was almost a legend in their country. 

Their aerobic act had them miraculously balancing off of each other’s heads. 

Howie told them their act was ‘amazing’ and Simon told them what they did was very dangerous.

They were voted on.

Comedian Mike Goodwin, 45, an Army vet and professional communicator from South Carolina, did a ‘BowTie’ stand up act that had all the judges laughing.

He poked fun at parenting and educating his children during the pandemic.

Simon told him it was a good audition and the judges all agreed and voted him on.

Real estate agent Anica Aneeka, 51, said she dreamed about being on AGT. 

She was a singer but told Simon ‘if you want to sell your house give me a call.’

Anica then belted out Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of My Heart.’ 

Howie told her that he loved her performance and that she ‘was fun to watch.’ Sofia didn’t think she was ‘spectacular’ and Simon agreed. 

After the audience started chanting, Sofia changed her mind and voted her on.

A dancer and contortionist Dflex from Laos, Nigeria surprised the judges with his athletic, but bizarre dance routine. He wrapped himself into almost unbelievable shapes and positions.

Heidi told him ‘It was weird but it was beautiful at the same time.’

Dflex started crying on stage after his performance. He told the judges he was getting emotional because of his wife who had sacrificed so much for him over the years.

Sofia told him that his act was ‘spectacular.’

The judges voted him through.

After the auditions, the judges went to Simon’s Malibu house to re-watch some of the best acts of the season. 

Simon said they had to choose 36 of the 50 acts. They argued and whittled it down to the 36 acts that will move on.

AGT will be on hiatus due to the Olympics being broadcast on NBC and will return on August 10 for the live shows at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
