Four night long cocktail parties and diva hairstyle demands: The Bachelor’s secrets exposed

The behind-the-scenes secrets of The Bachelor‘s latest season have been exposed.

From the show’s initial cocktail party taking a whopping four nights to shoot, to Bachelor Jimmy Nicholson’s extreme case of nerves around the ladies, Woman’s Day has pulled back the curtain on Channel 10’s reality TV hit.

The biggest bombshell however was that many of the female contestants were ‘up in arms’ over Jimmy’s clear preference of one woman very early on in the shooting.

Producers allegedly felt the star’s attraction to the unnamed girl was so obvious, they gave ‘more opportunities to certain girls who they believed never stood a chance with him.’

In interviews with the 32-year-old pilot after filming had finished, Nicholson revealed he was living with one woman who he met on the show.

Other revelations from the series included the ‘nightmare’ that faced producers when contestants demanded elaborate hairstyles.

Given some scenes, like the opening cocktail party, which took up to four nights to shoot, recreating those hairstyles each time would have been ‘too hard,’ leading to conflict between the women and producers.

Jimmy had his own demands, with a source telling the magazine he only wanted ‘independent women’ with ‘promising career aspirations’ to choose from.

The bombshells come after Bachelor fans were left perplexed last week when Nicholson was spotted wearing an earpiece during Wednesday’s premiere episode.

But Woman’s Day claimed the hunky pilot actually wore the earpiece ‘constantly’ during filming to help calm his nerves, and so that producers could help him with small talk.

An insider told the magazine that Jimmy was the most ‘daunted’ out of all the Bachelors, and that ‘producers were working overtime to keep him relaxed’.

‘He was constantly reminded to just breathe and look at the girls in front of him. He had an earpiece the whole time so producers could tell him the girls’ names and help him with a few tips and small talk,’ they alleged.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Ten for comment.

Meanwhile, Jimmy sent the rumour mill into overdrive last week after viewers noticed him wearing a small flesh-coloured earpiece while greeting his suitors on the red carpet.

In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, his ear flashed to the camera as Sierah Swepstone arrived on the red carpet and read his fortune with Tarot cards.

As he awkwardly laughed, some eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but wonder if Jimmy was being fed lines or conversation starters by producers as the spotted the nifty device in her ear.

‘Surely the producers are reading out suggestions into that earpiece in Jimmy’s ear,’ one fan wrote, with a gif spelling the word ‘rigged’ below.

‘I wonder if Jimmy has an ear piece telling him the names he’s picked or every single Bachelor has a good memory,’ another added.

It was all looking a bit too familiar for some Bachelor fans, who have noticed the show’s leading men wearing earpieces in the past.

Last season, Locky Gilbert denied hurtful rumours he was a ‘producer’s puppet’ who followed instructions via an earpiece throughout filming.

During an Instagram Q&A, the former Survivor star, 32, was asked about the false claims he was regularly fed lines and ‘conversation starters’.

He clarified: ‘The earpiece is only used for rose ceremonies so I know when to call a name so they can set cameras. I was never told what to say or do.’

Locky added: ‘I think production would have loved if I did [follow instructions].’

The earpiece allegations were first made by contestant Nadine Kodsi in an interview with Daily Mail Australia conducted before the season premiere.

Nadine claimed that Locky was just a ‘puppet’ being controlled by the producers.

She also alleged that he received instructions via an earpiece; however, this is not uncommon for reality shows like The Bachelor.

When similar claims were made about 2017 Bachelor Matty Johnson, a Channel 10 spokesperson said: ‘The Bachelor or Bachelorette are occasionally required to be connected to the director if there are technical difficulties with cameras, audio and lighting.

‘Once they get the all clear, they can continue with the Rose Ceremony proceedings. The Bachelor or Bachelorette never wears an earpiece during a cocktail party or on dates.’
