Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer have joined forces to front a new NHS blood donation campaign.

The Canadian actor, 44, and the Liverpool-born actress, 28, star together in new film Free Guy, about a bank teller who learns he is actually a background character in an open-world video game and decides to take control of his own destiny by becoming the hero of his own story.

And Ryan and Jodie come together once more in an NHS Blood and Transplant video, in association with Twentieth Century Studios, as they urge the public to be ‘great guys’ and register to donate blood.

The light-hearted clip sees Ryan compare blood donors to his character Guy who ‘always gives 100 percent’, with Jodie explaining that every donation could save up to three lives.

People are also able to download a digital Free Guy badge from NHS Blood Donation, with movie fans able to promote their ‘great guy’ act of giving a blood on social media.

The video also features clips from the comedy movie, released on August 13, with Ryan remarking: ‘there’s a little hero inside all of us’ – an overarching theme of the Shawn Levy directed flick.

‘There is a real shortage of male and young people giving blood so we particularly need hero donors from those groups to help us save more lives.
