Catholic Coleen Rooney ‘won’t divorce husband Wayne over fears of ruining their four sons’ lives’

Coleen Rooney reportedly won’t divorce her husband Wayne over fears that a separation could ‘ruin their boys’ lives’.

The footballer, 35, has been locked in an embarrassing drama after photos of him sleeping in a hotel room surrounded by three party girls went viral last weekend, leading to a police sting and blackmail allegations.

A source has now told The Sun that because Coleen is a Catholic she won’t break her marriage vows and will stay with him ‘for better or worse’ even after his latest indiscretion.

Wayne has been married to Coleen since 2008 and the couple share four sons Kai, 11, Klay, eight, Kit, five, and Cass, three.

The insider told the publication: ‘Of course, as a staunch Catholic, Coleen takes her marriage vows seriously. She committed to Wayne for better or for worse.

‘Crucially, she will not ruin her boys’ lives by taking them away from their dad and getting involved in an acrimonious divorce battle. Family is everything to her.

‘Coleen has had so much stick over the years for standing by Wayne — most of it from people who have never met either of them.

‘People say she’s a doormat for letting him stray, for simply shrugging off his humiliating drunken antics.’

The source added that the ‘reality was very different’ and that it takes a ‘strong woman’ to not leave at the ‘first sign of difficulty’, before branding Coleen Wayne’s ‘rock, his moral and social barometer’.

The insider went on to tell the publication that the WAG is ‘fiercely independent’ and that she doesn’t stay with him simply ‘for the money’, adding that she’d be ‘set for life if they were to divorce’.

Representatives for Coleen and Wayne have been approached by MailOnline for a comment.

On Wednesday it emerged Wayne had bought the photos of him sleeping in a hotel room surrounded by the party girls for just £1, and described the women as ‘decent’ days after claiming their pictures were part of a plot to blackmail him.

He was clothed and sitting upright sleeping on a chair in the photo in the hotel room.

Wayne, who has been married to Coleen since 2008, got caught in the drama over the weekend when he joined the girls in their hotel room near Piccadilly station.

Greater Manchester Police said they had received no reports about the incident, but Cheshire Constabulary were investigating the claims. It confirmed: ‘We have received a complaint of blackmail which we are reviewing.’

One of the images which leaked on social media and went viral on Sunday shows Wayne leaning in towards a blonde reveller at a nightclub in Manchester. There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the football star’s part.

Coleen is said to be fully behind her husband and thinks he has been the victim of a stitch-up.

On Wednesday, Wayne paid the ‘nominal’ fee to Brooke Morgan, Elise Melvin, both 21, and their pal Eleanor Hoggarth, who have apologised to him and ‘volunteered to hand over all pictures’ having admitted they got ‘carried away’.

Wayne now owns the copyright on the images that showed him asleep in a chair in their £60-a-night room in Manchester on Saturday.

In the aftermath ex-England skipper Wayne alleged to police he was blackmailed over the images of him with three women while fully-clothed and asleep in a chair. The trio approached Rooney’s lawyer, his spokesman said.

Wayne’s ownership of the majority of the pictures from his night out will now mean he can take legal action if they are used by the press or on social media.

A spokesman for Wayne said: ‘The three girls who took the photographs contacted Wayne’s lawyers and volunteered to hand over all pictures that were taken that night and the copyrights in them.

‘They have also, at their own suggestion, made a written apology to him for the events that took place and the embarrassment caused…

‘These were three decent young women who went for a night out. They did not expect Wayne to end up in their company and are remorseful about how things turned out with the pictures.

‘They got carried away and did something they later regretted. They did not expect it to end up in the mainstream media after it was posted on social media and they decided to take steps to put things right.

‘It would be wrong to say no money changed hands because when a contract is drawn up there must be a sum and in this case it was a nominal £1.

‘They have fulsomely apologised because they wanted to do what they saw as the right thing and draw a line under the matter.’
