Rugby league star George Burgess talks about how he is dealing with Sydney hotel quarantine

George Burgess is on the home stretch in Sydney hotel quarantine.

And the former South Sydney Rabbitohs prop is keeping himself match fit during his two week stay after signing on to play with the St George Illawarra Dragons til 2023. 

The 29-year-old British expat arrived in Sydney over a week ago with his family after running with the Wigan Warriors for a year, according to The Daily Telegraph. 

The Dragons have already prepared ahead for George’s arrival with an indoor workout program, which keeps the NRL star focused. 

‘The Dragons staff have kindly put together a structured program for my two weeks, including various movement, strength, aerobic sessions,’ he said.    

George’s main motivation is getting fit and strong to hit November pre-season hard, but admits it hasn’t been easy since his family was split up after arriving in Australia.  

George and his son Boston, four, are staying in one hotel, while his wife Joanna and their other two children, Birdie and Blainey, are quarantining in another.      

Regardless, Burgess stresses that routine has been a key factor to help him deal with hotel quarantine.   

The NRL player will often workout on his hotel balcony, where he has set up gym equipment including an exercise bike and kettle bells.   

His son, in the meantime, is kept ‘busy with his toys and his drawing and colouring.’

‘He will watch stuff on TV while I am training,’ the footballer says. 

Burgess mentions the thing he is most excited about once he leaves quarantine is seeing his family.      

The rugby league star explains he is back in Australia indefinitely and has signed on to play for the Dragons until 2023. 

‘Hopefully (I’ll) bounce back to my best after the recent surgery by getting super fit again and playing good footy,’ he adds.
