‘Don’t waste your time!’ Tom Hardy’s Capone biopic is SLAMMED as ‘awful’ and ‘hard work’ to watch by fans after it lands on Netflix

Tom Hardy’s biopic Capone was released on Netflix UK at the end of last month.

But fans were less than impressed by the offering, with many calling it a ‘waste of time’ and slamming it as an ‘awful’ film.

Capone follows the last year of the mobster’s life, as he settles down in Florida after spending the past 10 years behind bars while struggling with his mental health.

The notorious gangster was originally sentenced to serve 11 years in prison for tax evasion though he was released early due to his failing health.

Capone was just 48 years of age when he died in Palm Island, Florida in January 1947, so Tom was aged up up slightly for the role.

Tom’s portrayal of Capone sees him plagued by his life of crime, while some scenes also see him wear adult diapers after soiling himself.

Fans took to Twitter to share their displeasure with the film, with some claiming it was ‘hard work’ to watch the film, let alone finish it.

One person wrote: ‘F**k my ‘Capone’ on @netflix is an 1.45mins of my life i will never get back. Love Tom Hardy but that was just hard work (sic).’

Another added: ‘Don’t waste your time watching #Capone. Tom Hardy is brilliant but the story and everything else. Meh.’

One viewer joked: ‘Just wasted nearly 2 hours of potential Sunday nap time on the new Tom Hardy film Capone.’

Not mincing their words, one viewer hit out: ‘Watched the new ‘Capone’ movie last night. Actually one of the worst films I have seen.

‘I like Tom Hardy as an actor and enjoy the ‘gangster’ genre. But this was awful. Gave up after an hour. Avoid…’

Capone was diagnosed with syphilis and gonorrhea after arriving at the federal prison in Atlanta, and his health continued to decline.

Capone was later diagnosed with neurosyphilis, syphilis of the brain, in 1938, which damaged his mental faculties to the point where he was said to have the mentality of a 12-year-old child in 1946.

The biopic also stars Linda Cardellini as Capone’s wife Mae, Jack Lowden as FBI Agent Crawford, Matt Dillon as Johnny and Kyle MacLachlan as Karlock.

Josh Trank returned to the director’s chair for the first time since 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot, while also writing the screenplay and editing Capone.
