Frank Lampard confirms Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is OUT of trip to Bournemouth after aggravating same ankle injury during the cool-down after Bayern Munich defeat

  • Tammy Abraham will not play in Chelsea’s game at Bournemouth on Saturday
  • The striker aggravated an ankle injury during the cool-down after Bayern defeat
  • Abraham missed the United game earlier this month with the same ankle issue
  • Chelsea are also missing N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic through injuries

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed striker Tammy Abraham is not fit for their trip to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The striker missed the defeat by Manchester United earlier this month due to an ankle injury and then returned in last week’s win over Tottenham before coming off the bench against Bayern Munich in midweek.

But Abraham aggravated the same ankle injury during the cool-down after Tuesday’s 3-0 Champions League loss to the German giants.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to the south coast, Lampard offered a bleak injury updated: ‘(Christian) Pulisic is injured. (N’Golo) Kante injured, Abraham injured.

‘We are trying to find a solution with Tammy. It’s the same.

‘At the moment he is not doing anything active for a couple of days. But we don’t know the length.’

The 22-year-old was undergoing a series of tests on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury and the diagnosis has not been positive.

It will undoubtedly lead to concerns he could miss a clutch of crucial games, including Chelsea’s crucial FA Cup fifth round clash against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Lampard was also asked about the reaction he has seen in training to Tuesday night’s humbling loss to Bayern.

Lampard added: ‘The response will be about what we see tomorrow.

‘They have been fine in training. The match was tough, it opens your eyes somewhat.

‘The last Premier League performance was very good. In the bigger picture it was a lesson for the players.

‘They were better than us. It was a reality check for all of us.

‘I thought we could perform better. But we are in fourth and we have to fight until the end.’
