Eden Hazard’s season is NOT over despite fracturing his ankle, Roberto Martinez claims

‘He will be playing in a Real Madrid shirt before Belgium’: Eden Hazard’s season is NOT over despite fracturing his ankle, his international boss Roberto Martinez claims

  • Eden Hazard’s first season at Real Madrid has been derailed by injuries
  • He has fractured his ankle and is set to have an operation later this week
  • But Roberto Martinez says Hazard’s season is not over despite the setback

Eden Hazard will recover from his ankle injury in time to play for Real Madrid before the end of the season, his Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has claimed.

Hazard sustained an ankle fracture when Real lost 1-0 to Levante last week, just as he was reutnring from a separate three-month lay off. He will have an operation on Thursday.

But any fears over his involvement for Belgium at Euro 2020 have been erased by Martinez, who says he believes Hazard will be back for Real sooner than later.

Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard will have an operation this week after fracturing his ankle

‘No doubt he will be playing in a Real Madrid shirt before Belgium,’ Martinez told Marca.

‘Deadlines make it impossible to determine the recovery because you have to see the operation first and from there determine the deadlines.

‘The first two weeks are important but knowing Eden and how he works on other small injuries he has had, we believe he will be back with Madrid (this season).

Roberto Martinez has rejected doubts over whether Hazard will play again for Real this season

Roberto Martinez has rejected doubts over whether Hazard will play again for Real this season

‘He has had very bad luck. Throughout the season he has not been available for 20 games when if you look at the statistics you realise that Eden has barely stopped playing his entire career.

‘In the last eight years at Chelsea he has not even been unavailable for the 20 that has already been lost this season. It is something that is linked to the player.’

Hazard, who joined Real for a transfer that could cost up to £150million, has played only 15 times for the club this season, scoring once.
