How coronavirus restrictions affected the birth of Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough’s new baby

Jasmine Yarbrough and Karl Stefanovic welcomed their daughter Harper May on Friday.

But the new parents will be unable to have certain visitors inside their North Shore Private Hospital maternity suite, with current coronavirus rules restricting older family members from meeting the newborn.

Speaking to Hit105’s Stav, Abby and Matt in April, the Today host, 45, revealed the strict rules around Jasmine’s birth.

New parents: Coronavirus restrictions have impacted the birth of Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough’s baby daughter

Any visitors, including Karl himself, who were showing any symptoms of coronavirus or ‘anything that even looks like a flu’ would not be allowed into the maternity suite.

‘They have told me if I show any symptoms of coronavirus or anything that even looks like a flu, then I won’t be allowed in the birthing room,’ Karl said at the time.

Jasmine’s parents Bob and Cheryl Yarbrough live in Brisbane, with travel restrictions making it more difficult to travel to and from Queensland

Jasmine is also very close to her 94-year-old grandmother, who will be unable to visit the hospital amid the pandemic.

‘It’s the first grandchild and her first great grandchild,’ Karl explained.

‘So all the normal things you would do which would be a great celebration in a family’s life have been curtailed a bit but I guess you’ve just got to go through it and have a big party at the end of it.’

Karl’s 70-year-old mother Jenny also won’t be able to meet his child, as interstate travel restrictions and hospital protocols will force her to stay in Queensland.

‘My mum lives in Cairns. She’s just turned 70. She feels so isolated,’ Karl told his co-host, Allison Langdon on Today last month.

It’s unknown whether Karl’s siblings will be able to visit, especially his brother Peter and sister-in-law Sylvia Jeffreys, who are currently isolating with their two-month-old son Oscar.

Karl also joked at the time he wouldn’t allow Richard Wilkins to visit, who was previously diagnosed with coronavirus, despite since testing negative.

Richard was still able to announce the happy news on the Today show on Saturday.

The entertainment reporter confirmed that Harper weighs 2.9kg and was born on Friday, just after midday.

‘Mum and bub are both doing very well,’ he said proudly.

In a statement to the Today show, Karl said: ‘Harper and Jasmine are doing well and dad had a great night’s sleep.

He added: ‘I am in awe. Harper is absolutely perfect.’
