Catherine Tyldesley reveals her mother was rushed to ICU for emergency surgery

Catherine Tyldesley has revealed her mother was rushed to hospital on Friday to undergo emergency surgery.

The former Coronation Street star, 36, took to Instagram to praise the NHS for their ’round the clock care’ during a ‘horrendous’ week.

The illness is not thought to be coronavirus-related, although Catherine’s mother and father have reportedly both had the disease.

The news comes after Catherine revealed her grandfather is fighting for his life in hospital, having contracted COVID-19 also.

Her worries have lessened since Friday, however, as she revealed her mother is now home from hospital and recovering.

She uploaded a photo of two gloved hands, clasping one another, and captioned it: ‘Its been a horrendous 6 Days. Mum was admitted to ICU on Friday night, needing emergency surgery. The worry was like nothing I’ve ever known.

‘I want to take this opportunity to express my never ending gratitude to our #NHS and to #SalfordRoyal Hospital. The doctors worked around the clock to treat my mum swiftly and keep her protected from #covid19 at all times.

‘In the six days she spent in ICU she witnessed heartbreak and miracles. Each time I spoke to her describing the medical staff as angels. My mum has spent a week of her life with the greatest of heroes.

‘Today I received the miraculous news that I could take her home. I’ve never felt more gratitude in my life. I for one will be continuing to give thanks and prayer each Thursday – past lockdown to all the heroes still fighting, to all the hero’s we’ve lost and to all the families unable to be with loved ones! [sic]’

Updating followers of her grandfather’s medical status, she continued: ‘My grandad still fights for his life in the very same hospital. Unable to see him is heartbreaking, but knowing he is surrounded by earth angels is reassuring.

‘Do not stop giving. Do not stop hoping. Do NOT stop clapping. Do NOT stop praying. Do NOT stop counting small blessings. Stay safe. Save lives. There IS a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow ❤️❤️❤️❤️ welcome home mum! [sic]’

Hours before this, Catherine posted a photo of her wearing a T-shirt supporting the NHS with a rainbow emblem on it.

She captioned this: ‘Stay positive people! So important we keep strong and keep smiling. I’m loving my fab new #staypositive @percyandnell t-shirt – 15% from every sale is donated to the NHS.

‘They do kiddie sizes too, so it’s only a matter of time before I get Alfie in one! [sic]’

At the start of the month, Catherine took to Instagram and told fans her grandfather is ‘really, really poorly’.

The actress said she is convinced her husband Tom Pitfield and son Alfie, five, caught coronavirus on a flight in November last year.

Catherine said: ‘He’s on a ventilator in hospital at the moment.

‘My parents were really really poorly for about a month. They really struggled to shake it.

‘I’m convinced, I’ve got a lot of friends who are doctors and most have said it’s been going on since September, October and people have been keeping it quiet and it’s built and built and built.

‘I’m convinced my Tom and Alfie had it in November. They caught it on a flight and some man collapsed on a plane, a young man, on oxygen, couldn’t breathe.’

‘All the symptoms of corona. The day after Tom woke up and said, “Phone me an ambulance I can’t breathe”. And you now how fit my Tom is – he’s never ill. He was so ill.

Catherine continued: ‘Four days later Alfie got it. And it’s only now that I’m going, “Oh my God that was it”.

‘I put it on Instagram and so many people messaged me saying they were on my Emirates flight and they got sick.’

Last month, the Strictly star revealed that both of her parents Janet and Graham are battling coronavirus

The actress made the surprise revelation during an interview with Lorraine Kelly on Good Morning Britain, adding her father was briefly hospitalised during his battle with the deadly disease.

But Catherine insisted that after three weeks of battling the virus she is optimistic that her parents have ‘turned a corner’ towards getting better.
