Artist Montaigne belts out her winning song ‘Don’t Break Me’ as part of SBS’s Eurovision: Big Night In after the real contest was axed due to coronavirus

Australia’s entrant for Eurovision, Montaigne, saw her Eurovision dreams crumble after the show was cancelled this year. 

But the 24-year-old, real name Jessica Alyssa Cerro, still made it to the stage this year while performing for Eurovision’s Big Night In. 

Montaigne gave a stellar performance when belted out a rendition of her winning song ‘Don’t Break Me’ on Saturday.

The Melbourne-based singer wore a pair of white pants along with a cropped bustier. for her televised appearance.

Performing in front of a background showing images of a large hand and chains, Montaigne did performed interpretive dance moves.

She had blue hair and placed red circles on her face.

Despite not being interviewed after the performance, presenters of Big Night In Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst gushed over the performer. 

‘The Eurovision fanatics loved Montaigne,’ Joel said. ‘We love Montaigne.’

Prior to the performance, former Eurovision performer Dami Im spoke of how she was upset Eurovision won’t be happening this year.

‘So sad that Eurovision won’t be happening this year. But me and the rest of Australia wish you all the best,’ she said, sending a message of support. 

Former Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw offered words of firm support through a recorded message to the singer. 

‘I have beautiful memories from there [Australia],’ he added he hoped to see Montaigne soon.

SBS’s coverage showed recorded entrants, even allowing viewers to vote for their favourite ‘entry’ on the show.     

Sadly, the annual singing contest was axed in March, due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The concert was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, with talk the city will host celebrations for 2021.

The decision was taken by producers from the European Broadcasting Union, and announced via Twitter. 

The statement read: ‘It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam.

‘Over the past few weeks we have explored many alternative options to allow the Eurovision Song Contest to go ahead.
