Firefighters rescue 83-year-old man from 30ft-deep well after he slipped and fell while trying to rescue a cat

  • Professor P N Tyre is an animal lover and wanted to help the cat stuck in the well
  • His daughter-in-law saw him  at the bottom of the well and called fire fighters 
  • Fire fighters rushed to the elderly man’s rescue and used ropes to get him out 

An elderly man who tried to rescue a cat from a well fell into it and had to be rescued  himself by firefighters. 

Professor P N Tyre is an animal lover and wanted to help the cat that he saw struggling near the well in Chennai in India when he fell in. 

The professor’s daughter-in-law saw him inside the 30ft well and called firefighters who used ropes to get the 83-year-old out.

The daughter-in-law could not ask neighbours for help because of coronavirus social distancing restrictions.  

The video 

shows the man sitting in a gap tied with some tied rope while the firefighters pull him up. 

He holds a flashlight so the firefighters can see him and steer correctly in the dark, deep well. 

After being rescued Professor Tyre stands up and walks away seemingly without any serious injuries. 

P N Tyre, is a retired professor of Loyola College and has always loved animals. 

Although the elderly man fell down the 30ft deep well but stood up and walked away after he was rescued, seemingly unharmed
