Dua Lipa reveals that she was ‘really scared’ to release a new album during the COVID-19 pandemic and had to face her fear of livestreaming to fans

Dua Lipa has revealed that she had to face her fears in order to release her new album amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The 24-year-old spoke to Australia’s The Sunday Project this weekend and admitted she was worried about to dropping her record, Future Nostalgia, in March.  

‘I was really scared to put music out during this time to be really honest,’ she told the show.

But the Don’t Start now singer added: ‘It’s been nice to connect with my fans and listeners in a different way’. 

Dua added that she was has a fear of taking part in live video streams, which she had to face to promote the album. 

The British star said she had to conquer, ‘things that actually scare me – which is like going on livestream and talking straight to a camera and being really open and speaking about my experiences and talking about the songs’.

Facing those fears led to what she called, ‘an even more personal connection’ with the music and her fans.  

Dua’s Future Nostalgia has been shortlisted for Album Of The Year at the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize awards, with winners announced in September. 

The singer admitted the honour feels ‘surreal’ because she didn’t think she was ‘cool enough’ for the nod.

She wrote on social media: ‘My manager Ben called me on the phone when I was in New York and told me I was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and I couldn’t believe it.

‘I never really thought that would ever happen for me so I am really excited to have been shortlisted and for the recognition.

‘The support means so much to me and it’s kind of surreal because maybe I just didn’t think I was cool enough.’
