Sunrise orchestrates a heartwarming proposal on live TV for a couple separated in different states because of coronavirus

Sunrise has helped a couple from different states become engaged after they were separated due to the COVID-19 pandemic

During a live Zoom segment on Monday, weatherman Sam Mac reunited ballet dancer Jake Mangakahia, who is in Melbourne, with his singer girlfriend Kirstie Stevens, in Brisbane.

Sam handed the reins over to a nervous looking Jake, who got down on bended knee and said: ‘I can’t help falling in love with you. Kirstie Stevens, I want to share this life with you, will you marry me?’

Jake’s young niece and nephew then appeared next to Kirstie to present her with the engagement ring.

‘Yes! Yes!’ the brunette beauty excitedly answered as family members entered the room.

The Sunrise hosts began cheering as they watched watching on from the Sydney studio.

Sam called the moment ‘so beautiful’ and asked Jake how he was feeling after popping the question.

‘Honestly, I never thought I would be proposing on TV. It’s probably one of the most nerve-racking things I have ever done, but I’m just grateful she said yes,’ Jake said.

Sam also asked Kirstie for her reaction, to which she responded: ‘Oh my goodness, I never would  have thought any of this would be happening. Jake has turned my world upside down and I am so happy.’

The weather presenter thanked the couple for sharing their special moment on national TV.

‘I think with so much negativity and so many scary things happening in the world, to have a beautiful love story like that and a lovely surprise and two happy people in love is so special,’ Sam said.

‘I will be a part of it forever. It is just the three of us,’ he joked.
