Shemar Moore reveals he is battling COVID-19 but assures fans he is ‘will be okay’

Shemar Moore revealed he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus after a challenging year, which included the devastating loss of his mother in February. 

As the 50-year-old S.W.A.T. star announced the news to his 3.7 million followers on Christmas Eve, he detailed some of his symptoms and urged others wear masks. 

After initially believing he had fallen ill from food poisoning, he received his COVID-19 diagnosis, which explains his ‘chills and aches.’

‘I HAVE COVID!!!! Just found out moments ago…. I am gonna stay wrapping presents… Yes… I have been tested and told that I HAVE COVID!!!’ he wrote on Instagram. 

Assuring fans he ‘will be okay,’ the hunk noted he hasn’t experienced any loss of smell or taste and doesn’t have a cough, which are common symptoms of the virus. 

Moore continued: ‘I have to accept test results… I feel fine now… but I have to be responsible!!!!’ the actor continued. ‘My Xmas n New Years is clearly not gonna be the best… my last year and a half has not been the best… but I WILL BE OKAY!!!!’

‘This is a hard time for ALL OF US… the WORLD!!! But… I BELIEVE in the sun shining through the rain!!!’ Moore added. ‘Stay safe and appreciate everything and everybody you have and had!! MUCH LOVE!!!!’ he concluded with a hashtag urging his fans to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

He is among the many celebrities who have contracted COVID-19, including Tom Hanks, Khloé Kardashian, Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Grant, Kyle Richards and more. 

On February 8, his mother, Marylin Joan Wilson-Moore, passed away at the age of 76.

As he grieved her death, he shared an emotional video of himself sharing memories of his mom with the world on Instagram. 

‘I stay stunned. I am heartbroken… I don’t know life without this woman. I don’t know what to do but I will figure it out because that’s what she would want,’ he said. ‘Everything I’ve accomplished is because of this amazing woman. My mother is gone, she ain’t here no more. But she’s here.’ 

In his caption, he described her as his ‘best friend and partner in crime,’ in addition to saying he missed ‘her more than’ he ‘ever thought possible.’

‘I don’t know how to do this life without her,’ he confessed. ‘But I get my STRENGTH from her and I will be OK because of HER. Mama…. here come that man!!!!!’  

Shemar began the video saying: ‘This is real life. Your baby boy is OK, but I’m hurting real bad. It’s not a game, it’s not a joke. I’m hurting real bad. 

‘I’ve been offline for some weeks now. I’ve had to keep a secret out of respect to my mom. Ten days ago, February 8, 2020, my mom Marilyn Joan Wilson-Moore passed away.’

Shemar explained: ‘I was the little girl that she never had. That’s why in this picture, I’m putting lipstick on, because she thought she was gonna have a little girl.’

He concluded: ‘To my homies, my fans and my baby girls, I’m not famous, I’m not Hondo, I ain’t s*** without this woman. I’m just a man, and I’m gonna miss my mama for the rest of my life.’

While his mother’s cause of death is unknown, she battled multiple sclerosis and suffered from heart problems.
