Married At First Sight’s sexologist Alessandra Rampolla says critics COMPLAINED about her astonishing 60kg weight loss after undergoing a gastric bypass… but she insists it was a ‘life-changing’ experience

She underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2008, which helped her shed an astonishing 60kg.

But on Friday, Married At First Sight sexologist Alessandra Rampolla revealed that her drastic transformation was met with a number of complaints, despite her open struggle with obesity over the years.

Speaking to 9Entertainment, the 47-year-old said the experience was ‘literally life-changing’, but she was left surprised after some critics appeared to be openly angry about her weight loss journey.

Shock reaction: Married At First Sight’s sexologist Alessandra Rampolla has revealed that her drastic weight loss transformation was met with a number of complaints, despite her open struggles with obesity over the years

‘I got a lot of people complaining, “Why did you become thin?” And then before it was like, “Why are you fat?”‘ she said.

‘You know you can never please people, and it’s never about pleasing people – but I was very surprised with the amount of people who were like “Nooooo, why did you do this?” – it was my health, you guys.’

Alessandra went on to say the procedure – which involves surgically altering the stomach and small intestine – was an ‘incredible experience’ for her.

At the time, she was thinking about potentially starting a family with her now ex-husband John Hernandez, and wanted to become healthier. However, the pair never ended up having children together.

While gastric bypass surgery isn’t for everyone, Alessandra said she has no regrets.

‘It was literally life-changing to be able to take control of something that was controlling me,’ she declared.

Gastric bypasses involve stapling the stomach to make it smaller, meaning that the patient gets full quicker and consumes less food.

It also involves creating a shortcut from the pouch to the small intestine (a bypass), meaning less calories are absorbed.

The combination of consuming less food and absorbing less calories leads to weight loss over time.

Alessandra has previously spoken candidly about her gastric bypass, posting a series of stunning before-and-after Instagram pictures in January 2019.

What is gastric bypass surgery?

Gastric bypass is a surgical procedure that helps people with obesity to lose weight and improve their health.

The surgery involves decreasing the size of the stomach and changing the way the stomach and small intestine absorb food.

During the procedure, staples are used to create a pouch in the top part of the stomach.

The pouch is then attached to the lower part of the small intestine, causing food to bypass most of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine.

As a result, less calories will be absorbed into the body, while the patient will feel full after eating a smaller amount.

This procedure is primarily done as a keyhole surgery (using small incisions, but occasionally an operation is required.

‘Do you remember me like that? Fall 2006, a couple of years before traveling to Cali, Colombia to undergo a gastric bypass by the hand of the great Dr Eduardo Bolanos to take control of my obesity,’ she captioned the post in her native Spanish.

‘Go to the 2nd photo to see my current version, much healthier after losing 55 kg!

‘On this Friday of memories, the first of 2019, I draw strength and inspiration from my own story of challenges overcome (some little ones, others – like this – not so much) and I dare to look forward and dream big.

‘Because everything is possible… because we can do everything. Welcome, 2019.’
