She said: ‘Susanna bought me something incredible. It’s the most enormous furry throw, it’s a blanket.’

To which Susanna, 50, said: ‘It’s a kind of Game of Thrones blanket.’

Revealing her delight at the gift, Kate added: ‘Exactly! Bill’s [her son] been walking around with it like a Game of Thrones blanket [wrapped around his shoulders]. It’s really snuggly. Thank you!’

The broadcaster then went on to call out other co-host Adil Ray, 47, for not getting her a present as she turned to him and asked: ‘Adil?’

As Kate replied: ‘Ah!’, Adil continued: ‘It’s coming, it’s coming! Oh hang on, I have! I sent you an invite this week, that’s your birthday present!’

With Kate then responding: ‘That’s true, we’re going to the cricket aren’t we?’

It comes after the I’m A Celebrity star discussed the difference in her relationship since her husband Derek Draper returned from hospital amid his coronavirus battle.

The Good Morning Britain host appeared on Lorraine on Tuesday – her 54th birthday – where she spoke of ‘the hope’ she holds for her husband, whose battle with the illness has had life-changing consequences, and how he ‘wants pride’.

During her discussion with Lorraine, 61, she grew tearful when the Scottish host presented her with flowers for her birthday, to which she said: ‘Thanks for everyone, you’ve been so wonderful, I’ve been so lucky’.

Oh dear! The broadcaster then went on to call out other co-host Adil Ray, 47, for not getting her a present as she turned to him and asked: 'Adil?'

She also spoke of the moment she communicated with Derek about her birthday and revealed she said: ”I said, “Don’t worry I’m not expecting anything, my present is you being home and I’m going to pop in and see you before I go off early to Lorraine”‘.

Kate and Derek’s trauma began at the start of the pandemic last year when he was taken to hospital with very low oxygen levels in March.

His condition worsened and he became one of the most stricken patients, remaining in intensive care for a year and despite having returned home he is seriously ill and doctors say he was the most seriously sick patient to have survived the virus.

The former Blair lobbyist returned home last month to their home, which Kate has drastically overhauled to house Derek’s limited mobility.

When asked about the prospect of giving up during her year of hell, Kate said: ‘No and really, what is the choice? If I give up, I’d be throwing in the towel…

‘Derek wasn’t giving up, he didn’t throw in towel, the nurses and doctors didn’t throw in towel? I think hope is tangible and concrete if you can make it so…

‘There is hope, you still have to think of hope in future and lots of people helped me have hope for the future’.

Speaking about holding things together and their relationship now, Kate said: ‘It’s strange, you think that Derek was his own person, big force of nature, and now everything is so quiet, we have to feed him and help with his medications and do things for him…

‘It’s a different relationship, now I’m thinking that there’s a sort of tenderness, it is love and he feels it back. We’ll hopefully be able to get some balance in that, so he wants to have some pride. He wants to look at his wife.’

On Derek’s reaction to her birthday, she said: ‘At the moment the family and I are looking for lots of little things with Derek…

‘He’s home, we can hug him, that’s a miracle in itself. We’re looking for little bits of him to come more out of the consciousness, to come more back to us…

‘And last night I said to him when I was tucking him in and doing various medical bits, I said, ‘By the way, it’s my birthday tomorrow’ and I may have imagined it but he looked a bit worried…

‘I said, ‘Don’t worry I’m not expecting anything, my birthday present is you being home and I’m going to pop in and see you before I go off early to Lorraine’. So I came in this morning and said, ‘Right, I’m all ready’…

‘My mum and dad are there, and of course the nurses are there, and I said, ‘I’m off to Lorraine, is there anything you want to say to me?’ and he said, ‘Oh, happy birthday.’ It makes me feel a bit emotional actually. It’s happy tears…

‘That is massive. Obviously it’s wonderful he says happy birthday as that’s what I want to hear, but also we’re looking for things he can hold…

‘I’d told him that the night before, I had to prompt him a little bit but he was just stirring and we were turning him and doing various things this morning, but he held that idea that it was my birthday and managed to connect it back and repeat it out and that’s wonderful. Signs like that are just fantastic.’

Kate ‘spent thousands’ adapting her North London house for Derek’s return.

She transformed the family home to suit his needs as he is required to have 24/7 care while he continues his recovery.
