Veteran journalist and host David ‘Kochie’ Koch, 65, received the coronavirus vaccine live on Sunrise on Thursday. 

He and co-host Natalie Barr got their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on the show, with the help of a nurse and Dr. Ginni Mansberg who talked them through. 

Beforehand, Kochie received a rather worrying blood pressure result, which made him get ‘sweaty palms.’

‘It’s got nothing to do with the vaccine whatsoever, but we doctors are obsessive about taking everyone’s blood pressure,’ Dr. Ginni explained. 

Natalie received a result of 117 over 87, which was a good result according to Dr. Ginni, while Kochie had to get another blood pressure test after a result of 160 over 94.  

‘We might retake that one,’ Dr. Ginni said.

Kochie found the results rather baffling, saying: ‘I usually suffer from low blood pressure!’

‘Now I’ve got sweaty palms,’ he said. 

His second test was done during an ad break and came out fine. 

Kochie was relieved, saying: ‘Good, I was getting nervous.’

Soon after, he and Natalie, 53, got the vaccine.

How effective is the AstraZeneca vaccine? 

– A US trial done in March reportedly found that the AstraZeneca vaccine is 100 percent effective at keeping people out of hospital and stopping them dying of the disease 

– An extra trial of the vaccine in America found it was more effective than it was in the UK research – preventing 79 percent of all symptomatic infections – and nobody got seriously ill

Kochie was in good spirits and joked with the nurse that his arm muscles might be hard to get through with the needle.  

‘Just watch my guns here, if it’s too hard you might need to go a bit further,’ he said with a laugh. 

Afterwards, he remarked: ‘Oh that’s pretty easy!’

Natalie appeared to wince as she got the jab, before giving a thumbs up. 

Kochie also revealed with viewers that he has Friday off for a business conference, so won’t be off because he is unwell. 

Dr Ginni explained that they might get some symptoms of fever, headaches or a sore arm in coming hours.  

According to Channel Seven, Kochie and Nat will wait 12 weeks to get their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. 

According to new reports, US pharmaceutical company Moderna has agreed to deliver 25 million Covid vaccine shots to Australia by the end of next year.

Moderna will deliver 10 million doses this year and 15 million booster shots next year – provided the Therapeutic Goods Administration approves both jabs.
