Lindy Klim raises awareness for the Bali Street Mums & Kids Project which helps impoverished children living on the street

Lindy Rama-Ellis (née Klim) has used her platform to raise money for a charity dedicated to helping impoverished mothers and children living in Bali.

In a series of video posts on Instagram Stories on Monday, the 44-year-old ex-wife of former Olympic swimmer Michael Klim shared videos promoting the Bali Street Mums & Kids Project.

The confronting videos revealed that many street kids in Bali fall victim to kidnappings, sexual abuse and prostitution.

The charity has been able to set up a series of safe houses, which currently houses over 40 children, mothers and babies.

Lindy also included a link to the charity’s GoFundMe page, which has so far raised US$3,809.

‘The children and single mothers come from extremely poor and in most cases abusive living circumstances and are found begging on the streets in tourist areas in the south, before being rescued by Bali Street Mums and Kids Project,’ reads the page’s description.

‘Begging is very dangerous and many children are being kidnapped from the streets, trafficked and abused every year in Bali.

‘Bali Street Mums and Kids Project rescue children from horrific circumstances and it is these children that live at the Safe House, where they receive care, counselling, schooling and safety.’

Hosting a Q&A session with her Instagram followers, Lindy explained why living on the island has a special significance for her and her family.

Lindy is a Balinese princess, whose late father was the prince of Denpasar, Anak Agung Oka Rama.

While she is technically royalty, Lindy confessed she feels like ‘a fraud’ because she grew up in Hobart and wasn’t taught much about her heritage.

‘My dad was Balinese and unfortunately I didn’t get to know him before he died. I feel a greater connection to him living here. I also want my children and I to connect with the Balinese side of us,’ she explained.

Lindy is based in Bali with her husband Adam Ellis and her four children, Stella, 15, Rocco, 13, Frankie, nine, and Goldie, three.

She shares Goldie with Adam and her older children with retired Olympian Michael, 43, to whom she was married from 2006 to 2016.
