Footballer Che Adams, 24, has decided to represent Scotland instead of England
When Che Adams played for England, his family proudly hung a St George’s flag outside their home in Leicester.
But a saltire now flies in its place after the 24-year-old striker decided to represent Scotland instead.
His mother Frances yesterday admitted that the entire family has switched allegiance and will be backing the Scottish team in the Battle of Britain tonight.
Miss Adams told the Mail: ‘I’ll be supporting Scotland, of course. I have no choice and I’ll be willing them to beat England 2-1.’
Her son is one of the three Scottish players at the Euros who were born in England.
Scott McTominay, 24, was born in Lancaster, and Liam Cooper, 29, was born in Hull.
McTominay’s uncle Robert Bell, 68, said the family is caught in ‘an agony of indecision’ over who to support.
He said: ‘I, for one, will be rooting for Scott while wanting England to win. We are caught down the middle and it is a really awkward place to be.’
Adams, who was born in Leicester, played twice for England’s under-20 side in 2015.
After rebuffing an approach from Scotland in 2017, he switched allegiance this year. The striker has admitted that his teammates at Southampton have started calling him McChe or McAdams.

He qualifies for inclusion because his maternal grandparents were Scottish.
Miss Adams, 60, said: ‘I supported England when Che played for the team but now he’s playing for Scotland I support his country.’
There was no sign of either flag at McTominay’s family home in Lancaster yesterday.
The Manchester United midfielder, who was signed aged eight by then manager Sir Alex Ferguson, qualifies for Scotland because his father Francis was born in the coastal village of Rhu. His mother Julie is English.
Meanwhile, Leeds United captain Cooper is eligible to play for the team because his paternal grandfather John hailed from Bo’ness, near Edinburgh.
