EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Meghan Markle ‘wanted to meet someone’ when she came to Britain and said she ‘loves London men’, Lizzie Cundy claims

The Duchess of Sussex‘s old friend Lizzie Cundy is to demonstrate on her new television programme how the American former actress targeted British men.

The presenter was among those befriended by Meghan before she met Prince Harry.

‘We have a clip of her saying: “I want to be a London girl, I love London men and I love everything to do with London,”‘ Cundy tells me at the Boisdale Life Editors Lunch.

Cundy, whose Amazon Prime show is called Red Carpet Uncut, adds: ‘I was asked to look after Meghan when she came over here. She wanted to meet someone.’

But, claims Cundy, Meghan later cut all contact with her: ‘She ghosted me once the engagement hit.

‘She’s ghosted quite a lot of people, obviously, including her family, so I’m not the worst person she’s ghosted.’

Sue Perkins’s appointment as the new host of Just A Minute has won a thumbs-up from Malcolm Messiter.

His father, Ian, came up with the idea for the BBC Radio 4 comedy panel show while riding on a London bus in the 1960s.

‘I am delighted,’ professional oboist Messiter tells me. ‘My dad would be delighted, and very proud, too.’

Fergie still treated like royalty by young fans

Her former husband, Prince Andrew, might be persona non grata, but Sarah, Duchess of York is still greeted by curtsies and cheering crowds.

Yesterday, as she visited a charity in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, Fergie was met by schoolchildren waving flags and holding banners saying, ‘Welcome to the Duchess’.

She has been made patron of Ruddi’s Retreat, which provides free holidays to children and families affected by serious illness or bereavement. ‘We are delighted that the charity’s work has been recognised by royalty,’ says its founder Ali Jones.

Fergie is officially no longer ‘royalty’, but, hey, she handed out pencils to the children so, like them, we can draw a line under that.

Enchanting Irish television chef Clodagh McKenna — fiancee of Harry Herbert, whose father, ‘Porchy’, the 7th Earl of Carnarvon, was the Queen’s racing manager and confidant — reveals that their difficult experience trying to set up a wedding list inspired her to launch her own business.

‘I wanted to offer a personal [wedding gift] service that I couldn’t find,’ she explains.

‘Everybody loves to set up their perfect kitchen and dining room at the start of their marriage, and I’m so happy to help you do just that.’
