Earlier this week, the medical professional shared an emotional tribute to all that have lost their lives due to coronavirus.

The former reality star vowed to not ‘lose spirit or resolve’ as he posted an Instagram snap from University Hospital Lewisham in south London on Tuesday while continuing to work on the NHS frontline.

Alex wrote alongside the snap: ‘Today at 10am we held 2 minutes of silence at Lewisham Hospital, to show respect to all of those who have lost their lives to the coronavirus.

Last week he appeared on Lorraine to talk with Dr Hilary about the impact working is having on his mental health, he said: ‘Sometimes it’s tough I would be lying if I didn’t say I shed a tear or two when I get home.’

He continued: ‘I’m very fortunate to have supportive colleagues and a supportive girlfriend who is willing to listen to me and let me share my emotions.

‘At Lewisham hospital there’s a well-being group for us to talk about things, it’s really helpful to talk.’

On the struggles of wearing his PPE, he said: ‘For me, one thing that’s upset me quite a lot is when I see patients and have the PPE on it makes patients afraid the warmth and compassion I’d give normally, like a smile.

‘I can’t do so in a way of lightening the mood it was self-deprecating humour. I’m not seeing unwell patients like that, but we do rely on that human touch.’

When asked by Dr Hilary about his mum, he said: ‘My mum is a massive fan of you Dr Hilary, I have a photo of you for my mum….

‘She is worried but she does understand, what am I to do I can’t walk away, I am doing my best, I’m wearing my PPE…

‘We’re not having issues with PPE supplies so what else can we do really… sometimes you have to go there are risks but I have to do what I can.’

Earlier this month, he shared his virtual tour. He took to YouTube to reassure fans who had been shaken by news that Boris Johnson had COVID-19.

The doctor explained that in his hospital, the ward had been separated into a red area – for patients with, or suspected to have, coronavirus, and a green area for those being treated for other ailments.

Reassuring his concerned followers, Dr Alex then gave a tour of one of the hospital’s resuscitation rooms. Spinning the camera round, he explained: ‘At the back we’ve got defibrillators, cardiac monitors and oxygen.

‘This is quite a large space. A space we can utilise with all the teams that are here to care for the patient.

‘Just wanted to give you an idea of what resus really looks like, there are multiple bays like this and we’ve got a nurses desk there to keep an eye on all the patients.’

Dr Alex continued: ‘It’s hard work going in and out as you have to change into PPE (personal protective equipment) to go into resus as its rather warm. You do feel quite dehydrated.’

The reality star then moved on the video to chat with his colleague, Dr Cath Taylor, as he revealed: ‘It’s been a pretty hectic day.

‘What we’re finding emotionally challenging is seeing people fit and well coming in, and its a real shock… I feel like we’re seeing all ages.’

The medic then quipped: ‘Someone said to me this morning – one of the EMT doctors – ‘are you finishing your shift, because you look very tired’.

‘Yeah that’s the sad thing. So maybe I have lots of dark eyes. I think I have, I need some concealer… and a hair cut.’
