Gerry Conrad of the Mail on Sunday dies aged 58

Tributes have been paid to Gerry Conrad, a former picture researcher on The Mail on Sunday, who has died after a short illness at the age of 58.

He worked at this newspaper from 1987 to 2008, and also spent time at the Observer Magazine, Daily Telegraph, and The Times. His first job was at the Keystone Press, a Fleet Street photo agency.

After leaving the MoS, Conrad embarked on a freelance career writing magazine articles, including several detailing the ‘lost’ pubs and famous people of Notting Hill, West London

Conrad’s impeccable knowledge of current affairs, politics and journalism also led Harold Evans, the legendary former Sunday Times editor, to employ him on his prestigious book Front Page History.

One colleague said: ‘Gerry will be remembered for his gentlemanly manner and his fastidious wardrobe of authentic, tailored clothing from the 1960s, matched by an encyclopaedic knowledge of the culture of that era.’
