Woman, 25, dies after being hit by marked police car answering 999 call in south London
- Woman, 25, was struck around 11.20pm last night on Stockwell Road in Lambeth
- Police say pedestrian was struck by a marked police car responding to 999 call
- Paramedics and air ambulance rushed to incident, but the woman died at scene
- Police have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct
A woman has died after being struck by a marked police car answering a 999 call in south London.
The incident took place around 11.20pm on Wednesday on Stockwell Road, Lambeth.
Scotland Yard say paramedics and an air ambulance crew rushed to the scene after the pedestrian, 25, was struck by the police vehicle.
Despite their attempts to save her life, the woman died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed, police say.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has now launched an investigation.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers were called at approximately 11.20pm on Wednesday to Stockwell Road, SW9 to a collision involving a marked police vehicle on an emergency call and a female pedestrian.
‘A 25-year-old woman was treated by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance.
‘Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman sadly died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed
‘Cordons remain at the location and traffic is being diverted.
‘Road closures are in place in a number of surrounding streets, including Brixton Road, Stockwell Road and Landor Road.
‘The incident, as is usual in such situations, has been notified to the Directorate of Professional Standards.
‘It has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is now carrying out an independent investigation.’
